History

Founded as Techno Venture Management in 1983 as one of the first venture capital firms in Germany, TVM Capital raised its first venture capital fund in 1984. After originally opening its office in Munich, TVM Capital added the Boston office in 1986. Today, the firm is one of the very few true international venture capital firms, counting more than 30 transatlantic deals to date with investments across eight countries, and with 50 former portfolio companies listed on stock exchanges in Europe and the U.S. (including NASDAQ, London Stock Exchange, Frankfurt Stock Exchange, NASDAQ Europe and the Swiss Stock Exchange).

TVM Capital founded in Germany as Techno Venture Management, opening its first office in Munich

First fund, the €87-million ($60 m) TVM I, is raised

Current technology Managing Partner Friedrich Bornikoel joins the firm
1990
Current life sciences Managing Partner Dr. Helmut M. Schühsler joins the firm
1996
TVM Capital portfolio company Qiagen is the first German company to go public on NASDAQ. TVM Capital was a lead investor in the company.
1997
TVM Capital portfolio company SCM Microsystems becomes the first company to have a dual listing on NASDAQ and Neuer Market. TVM Capital was a lead investor in the company.
2001
To offer a higher degree of flexibility to investors, TVM Capital’s fifth fund generation consists of two dedicated industry-specific fund entities -- TVM V Life Science Ventures, raised in 2001, and TVM V Information Technology, raised in 2002.
2002
TVM Capital surpasses €1 billion ($1 bn) in investment funds raised and under management.
2006
Firm changes its name to TVM Capital, enabling the company to marry its brand heritage with its current position as a leading venture capital investor in innovative life sciences and technology companies in both the U.S. and Europe.
